Aldus FreeHand 1.0 is the first major release of FreeHand that was marketed by Aldus Corporation.

FreeHand was originally developed by Altsys Corporation from Fontographer's graphics engine as Masterpiece.[1] It was licensed to Aldus in the fall of 1987,[2] with Altsys retaining development rights.[3]
