EPS Exchange was a plug-in for Aldus FreeHand 3.x that was developed by Altsys Corporation. It provided early FreeHand users with some measure of compatibility with Adobe Illustrator files.
Product history[]
- EPS Exchange 1.0 was released in summer 1991 and allowed users of FreeHand 3.0 to save EPS files in formats specifically readable by Adobe Illustrator 88 and Illustrator 3.0. However, FreeHand users could still only import generic EPS formats exported by Illustrator, losing some advanced graphics editability in the process.[1]
- EPS Exchange 2.0 was announced at Macworld Expo San Francisco in January 1992. It allowed users of FreeHand 3.1 to be able to read and write files directly in Adobe Illustrator 88 and Illustrator 3.0 formats, retaining more features. Upgrades were free for existing users.[2][3]
Future versions of FreeHand, starting with version 4.0, had Illustrator file format support included with the application.[4]
