Flash Cam was a simple Flash-based screen recording utility from Nexus Concepts that is the earliest predecessor to Captivate.

RoboDemo evolved into Captivate at Macromedia.

Flash Cam was first released in 2001.[1] In May 2002, Flash Cam Professional was released as RoboDemo 2.0 by eHelp Corporation.[2][3] On May 20, 2002, eHelp acquired the technology from Nexus Concepts.[3] After eHelp was acquired by Macromedia on October 24, 2003,[4] RoboDemo was rebranded as Macromedia Captivate.[5] After Macromedia was acquired by Adobe Systems in December 2005,[6] it was renamed to Adobe Captivate.[7]
