Gay at Macromedia

Jonathan Gay is an American programmer and entrepreneur. He was the last Chief Technology Officer of Macromedia before it was acquired by Adobe Systems in December 2005.[1][2]

Gay is an engineering graduate of Harvey Mudd College. He previously created Airborne!, Dark Castle, and Beyond Dark Castle at Silicon Beach Software, which was acquired by Aldus Corporation, where he developed Aldus IntelliDraw. In 1993, he co-founded FutureWave Software, where he developed SmartSketch, which evolved into FutureSplash Animator.[1] FutureSplash was demonstrated to Adobe Systems, which did not express interest in the product.[3] In January 1997, FutureWave was acquired by Macromedia, where Gay became vice president of technology, leading development on Macromedia Flash.[4] He did not join Adobe and left Macromedia.[3] Gay has since co-founded Greenbox Technologies and Explory.[5]
