Live Software was the original developer of JRun, before being acquired by Allaire Corporation in 1999.[1]
History[]
Live Software was founded in 1995 by Paul Colton in San Diego.[2] Their flagship product, JRun, was released in July 1997 and added functionality to web servers through a set of Java classes to allow them to run Java "servlets".[3] The standards were adopted by the industry and became part of the J2EE specification. Live Software gave away JRun for free,[4] but gained revenue from the servlets that ran on JRun.[5]
Allaire Corporation announced the acquisition of Live Software on June 15, 1999.[6] Macromedia absorbed Allaire through a merger that was completed on March 20, 2001.[7] Adobe Systems then acquired Macromedia on December 3, 2005.[8]
