MacroMind VideoWorks II is an animation program that was developed and released in 1987 by MacroMind (predecessor of Macromedia).[1]

VideoWorks II was designed by Marc Canter and Jay Fenton to supersede the original VideoWorks with color capabilities to support Apple Computer's new Macintosh II system. It was programmed by Fenton, Erik Neumann, Alan McNeil and Dan Sadowski. It was self-published by MacroMind for a suggested retail price of $195.[1][2][3]
In 1988, Canter announced that that the next version, VideoWorks Professional, would feature additional paint capabilities.[4] It was released in 1989 as MacroMind Director 1.0.[5]
