Macromedia Director 6 is the sixth major version of the Director multimedia authoring environment, released on May 27, 1997 by Macromedia. It was also bundled into Macromedia Director 6 Multimedia Studio and Macromedia Authorware 4 Interactive Studio.[1]

Director 6 was initially announced for release in March 1997, but was delayed after significant bugs were discovered in a technical review.[2]
Director 6.5 was released on May 11, 1998 and added QuickTime 3 support, PowerPoint integration, and Java applet creation. It was also available as part of Director 6.5 Multimedia Studio.[3]
