Macromedia Drumbeat 2000 was a web development environment that allowed users to build data-driven web applications through a visual drag-and-drop interface.
Product history[]
Drumbeat 1.0 originated in 1997 from Elemental Software in Carlsbad, California.[1]
Drumbeat 2.0 shipped on June 2, 1998.[2] An early corporate customer was Hewlett-Packard which bundled Drumbeat 2.0 with their HP NetServer line.[3]
Drumbeat 2000 shipped in March 1999.[1] Elemental followed up with eStore Builder for Drumbeat 2000 to support the growing market of internet retailers.[4]
Acquisition and discontinuation[]
On July 6, 1999, Elemental entered into an agreement to be acquired by Macromedia within 45 days in exchange for 625,000 shares of Macromedia stock worth approximately US$24 million.[5][6] Macromedia bundled Drumbeat 2000 with eStore Builder in an eCommerce Edition that was released on September 1, 1999.[7][8]
On May 8, 2000, Macromedia announced that a new product, Dreamweaver UltraDev, would become a replacement product for Drumbeat 2000.[9]
