A Macromedia Extension Package (MXP) is a package format for delivery of extensions or plug-ins that expand the features of Contribute, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, or Flash. A Macromedia Extension Installation (MXI) file is used to handle the installation process.[1][2]
Installed extensions can be managed with Macromedia Extension Manager.[2] In December 2005, Macromedia was acquired by Adobe Systems.[3] The software utility was renamed to Adobe Extension Manager and its functionality was expanded to support Adobe Creative Suite applications, which includes Bridge, InDesign, InCopy, InDesign, and Photoshop. The .mxp package format was superseded by Adobe Zip Format Extension Package (.zxp) in Extension Manager CS5.5.[4]
