The 7th annual Macromedia International User Conference (UCON '96) was held September 4 to 6, 1996 by Macromedia at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California. The theme was "Shocking Your World".[1][2] It had become one of the industry's fastest-growing trade shows with year-to-year growth of over 100%.[3]

- John Doerr, general partner of Kleiner, Perkins, Caulfield and Byers
- Norm Meyrowitz, senior VP of product development at Macromedia
- John Ludwig, VP of internet platform and tools at Microsoft
- Marc Andreessen, CTO of Netscape
- Eric Schmidt, CTO of Sun Microsystems
Macromedia Director was repositioned from CD-ROM development to a web development tool through the deployment of Shockwave.[4] FutureSplash Animator, which would later become Macromedia Flash, also made its first appearance.[5]
"People's Choice Awards" in 15 categories were awarded at the event for projects developed with Macromedia applications.[6]
